Lest We Forget
1939-1945
1812 -1814 - Korea - Vietnam
Afghanistan
From my mothers womb and my fathers hand I came to live upon the land,
I breathed the air and walked the earth all efforts made to be a man.
I was a mischievous youth but dad was proud,
My mother scolded but not too loud,
I was loved by all and they would say,
I respected and ambraced life every day.
I cherished the world that sustained me.
I dared dream of a long and bright future.
I was 19 when my country called,
There was tyranny in a far off land,
They needed me to help set it right,
I volunteered to lend a hand.
They gave me a gun with which to kill,
I was intent to show my new found skill.
I tried my best.
I knew that I was right.
I was committed to my country.
I am the Unknown Soldier,
I am laid beneath this marker,
So far from home.
I died in battle with little complaint.
I lost my youth and give it to you.
I lay here without a name.
I am lost forever and will not return.
So in a quiet moment if you have the time,
Think of your freedom or what could be,
Did I make a difference?
and if I did,
Please take a moment,
and remember me.
